Dale J. Wasserman
In 1950 Dale acquired his first motorcycle -- a Harley Davidson 125cc, single cylinder 'Thumper'. Actually, Dale owned a Cushman motor scooter for two years prior to that. "I loved exploring the xyz on my qrs. The freedom and yadda yadda yadda was blank." Some of the motorcycles that followed: 1974 Harley, several smaller Hondas, BMW R69S, Moto Guzzi, BMW R75, Honda Goldwing, Honda ST 1100. At that point, Dale decided that BMW motorcycles 'fit' him best, and has owned BMWs exclusively ever since. BMW motorcycle models rounding out his list include: BMW K100, RBMW 1100 RS, BMW R1100 GS. Dale currently rides a BMW R1150 RA, which he describes as "possibly my last bike". For Dale, motorcycles have been a way of life. Some ten years ago he was awarded a 300k mile pen from BMW. These pens are given only when a BMW dealership can substantiate the mileage -- on BMW motorcycles. Let's see, if Dale had ridden 300,000 miles on BMW motorcycles 'ten years ago', his *total* miles on two wheels might be closer to 400k! Dale explains, "One of the reasons my mileage is so high, is that I use to ride to work every day -- Summer or Winter, rain or shine, as long as there was no snow or ice on the ground... I rode." Dale has mentored many new riders in the past. "I enjoy mentoring other riders *if asked*. I never intrude and suggest to someone that I should teach them to ride. When I teach (mentor) I do it by example." Dale has taken many long tours on his motorcycle -- exploring the United States. He has enjoyed rides to Miami (on numerous occasions), Ohio, and Oklahoma -- just to list a few. Dale's wife use to ride with him, but back problems prevent her from riding. "Unfortunately, all my riding now is solo," explains Dale. "Riding motorcycles is exhilarating. Riding a super slab at 80 mph is fun, but takes intense concentration -- and the adrenalin really flows. However, it's also nice to cruise a two lane country road at 45 mph, and smell the outdoors."
