Motorcycle Riding Tip of the Week --
Emotions of a New Rider... Keep a Journal

Something special happens when you start riding. It's hard to explain... familiar things look anew, the smells of Spring bring back memories from the past. As one rider described,

"Riding is much better than IMAX."

It's common for new riders to want to share their new passions, experiences, and thoughts with others 'who get it'. If your spouse isn't participating in your new hobby, he/she might tire of the rant.

While I still have these feelings and thoughts while riding, the early feelings when I started riding again are still magical.

Keep a journal, or find a friend who 'gets it' that would enjoy reading your emails documenting your new experience.

In my case, my mentor was the answer. I shared my new experiences and feelings, without fear of shame. I knew 'he understood'. And, I think he enjoyed reliving the early emotions of riding a motorcycle.

The cold weather is getting to Mike...

Good grief, this weather is killing me. Every time I have time to ride, it is either too cold or raining. I'm sitting here in the office and looking out at a beautiful, yet cool day. I need to hear the groan of my Triumph triple...

Fred recalls a cold ride from the past...

Mike, I remember when I was kid and had to walk through the snow to school, barefoot. Oops, wrong story. I remember once in the 80's when I was riding a Suzuki GS1100E - and commuting on it - when the temp that morning was 18deg F. And in THOSE days I had not wised up ..... I rode in street pants for gosh sakes instead of armored clothing. Not even wool street pants. I figured that since the ride was only ten miles (20 minutes, some in urban areas) I could manage. I have never been colder in my life than when I pulled into the parking lot that morning. The fronts of my thighs had lost feeling. But what a memorable ride! My point - get out there in this cold and do at least a short ride somewhere. You will be surprised how refreshing it can be.
