The Contest Winner for the Brand New Motorcycle Helmet is...
Scotia Saunders of Burlington NC!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the forums. The contest really seemed to get things going "posting". I've been promised a photo, once the helmet selection is complete. I'll send it out soon.
Riding Tip - Honda Hoot Trip Report
The Honda Hoot Motorcycle Rally was held in Knoxville Tennessee June 20th through 23rd. Since I don't enjoy riding in the heat, I decided to go in a box.
(Aside: read below... I think I've found a solution for hot weather riding).
Mike rode his motorcycle since he was meeting his family in the Smoky mountains for a family vacation following our road trip.
A day pass to the Hoot cost $15. It provides full access to vendors (inside and outside), several motorcycle stunt type demonstrations, demo rides, and informational lectures from motorcycle experts.
Surround motorcycle owners with "motorcycle stuff" and you have a good time.
Almost everything motorcycle related was on display: helmets, riding gear, straps, trailers, maps, tours, miracle glue, motorcycle motel information, and tires.
There were several interesting products that caught my eye. I thought you might enjoy seeing them as well.
Carry your golf clubs on your motorcycle! That's right. No reason you can't combine riding with a round of golf.
Wonder if your insurance company would approve? Probably not.
Want a custom look on your motorcycle? No problem, pull right up and artists will paint whatever you like... while you wait. These guys were fascinating to watch!
It's amazing how they can paint perfectly symmetric patterns... with no mistakes.
The artists used idea books -- filled with past paintings. The riders simply selected a pattern from the book.
Another MUST HAVE product displayed at the Hoot this year, was a windshield wiper system.
The system came complete with a reservoir, pump, and wiper system.
Got bugs, no problem... a simple push of a button and your screen is clean again... or so that's what the salesman told me.
Note to self:
Participate in the Demo Rides next year! BMW, Triumph and Honda brought dozens of new motorcycles for anyone to ride. I didn't take my riding gear... figuring I'd have to show proof of everything -- complete with credit check, and next of kin list -- before being allowed to mount these beautiful bikes.
Not so. I "sat in" on a pre-ride briefing. From what I saw, securing a spot on your favorite bike was as easy as "signing up"... and listening to a 10 minute pre-ride briefing.
The new BMW F800S was calling my name for a test spin. Oh well. There's always next year.

Honda Hoot Exclusive -- Tips Readers Only
As I mentioned last week, I spotted a couple of products while at the Hoot that were MUST HAVEs. I approached the manufacturer, and asked for an exclusive discount for Tips readers.
With some reluctance, one agreed... with the stipulation that I could only sell it at the discounted price for 2 weeks. (I'm still working on the second vendor).
Next Tuesday, I'll send out details and ordering information. It's a top quality cooling vest. It's definitely something I need and will be purchasing.
